Intelligent Street Light Pilot Launches in Lloydminster

LLOYDMINSTER, AB/SK - The City of Lloydminster and ATCO Electric launched the intelligent street light pilot on Thursday, December 14, 2017.

In coming months, a team from the City of Lloydminster and ATCO will pilot a wireless motion sensor with integrated lighting controls, installed along College Drive (25 Street from 50 Avenue to 59 Avenue & 59 Avenue up to 36 Street).

The motion-sensing technology delivers ‘light on demand,’ where street lights dim during off-peak hours and automatically brighten when pedestrians, cyclists or cars are detected.

The system also incorporates software for remote monitoring and management of the lighting infrastructure. Combining motion sensors with the management system reduces energy waste, light pollution and carbon emissions.

The team will measure performance against metrics related to energy consumption, light pollution, carbon emissions, operation and maintenance efficiencies and public safety.

Residents are encouraged to provide feedback by calling ATCO Customer Service at 1-800-668-2248. Feedback will be accepted until April 2018.
