Water & Sewer Upgrades
25 Street Sanitary Trunk Extension Project

GS Holdings was contracted to complete upgrades to the sanitary sewer system on 25 Street. This project was completed to reduce the sewer surcharge that the area faced during above-average rain events. The upgrades to the sanitary sewer system were recommended in the 2009 Sanitary Sewer Master Plan and will form an important part of the City’s sanitary sewer system.

This project included the installation of a new sanitary main to relieve peak flows and storm events. It included tying into existing manholes, installation of sanitary mains using conventional construction methods and trenchless methods, incorporating horizontal directional drilling and steel encasements, pipe bursting existing sections and upsizing mains, and abandoning existing mains. The project included the following locations:
  • 25 Street, between 50 Avenue and 53 Avenue
  • 53 Avenue, north of 25 Street
  • 23 Street, from 59B Avenue Close to 59 Avenue
  • 59 Avenue, between 23 Street and 25 Street

West Sanitary Trunk Extension – 75 Avenue

Bullée Consulting was successful in the Request for Proposals process for consulting services for this project. The West Sanitary Trunk Extension – 75 Avenue is a priority due to past, current, and future development occurring west of 75 Avenue in Lloydminster. As identified in the Sanitary Sewer Master Plan (Update 2009), the west trunk is to extend to the northwest, west and southwest directions servicing the northwest basin and the southwest basin. Current and future development in this area has blocked the proposed alignment for the west trunk to extend west and southwest. A new alignment is required to serve these areas for future development. The scope of services to be provided to the City include:
  • Review the requirement for a sanitary trunk west of 75 Avenue as identified in the 2009 Sanitary Sewer Master Plan;
  • Prepare a preliminary design;
  • Prepare a detailed design; and
  • Prepare tender documentation for construction.

In 2013, the preliminary design was initiated and a pre-design report is currently under review. Detailed design and construction is expected to be complete in 2014.

2015 Water & Sewer Main Replacement Program

The Water and Sewer Replacement Program is an annual program that consists primarily of replacing water and sewer mains, miscellaneous concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk repairs, and reconstruction of the roadway. The selection of these sections is based on the water main break history, past problems with the sewer, age of pipe, and other criteria.

The 2015 Water and Sewer Replacement Program has been awarded to Russway Construction Ltd. The work will consist of water, sanitary and storm main replacement along 50 Street between 48 Avenue and 49 Avenue, and along 48A Avenue north of 50 Street.
