About the Councillor

Councillor Aaron Buckingham was elected to City Council on October 26, 2016. He is serving his first term on City Council.

I have been a resident of the City for just under 20 years and have a passion for moving our City forward. In my time here, I have served in numerous different roles including the Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce President, Border City Rotary Club President and Chairman of the Community Hope Statue project. I also coach many different levels of minor sports in the City, from hockey to soccer.

I have been a volunteer firefighter with the Britannia Fire Department for 19 years and currently hold the rank of Deputy Chief and a Training Officer as an international instructor. I am employed with WPD Ambulance for the last 16 years as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMT). I am employed part time by the commissionaires' as a guard at the Lloydminster RCMP detachment since July 2016.

I currently work full time as the Marketing Executive with 106.1FM The Goat, since 2005.

Experience

I believe my experience in dealing with all opportunities, I have been so privileged to have both in my work experience and volunteer rolls within the City will bring value and a strong voice to City Council as I have firsthand experience dealing with all walks of life and believe them all to be equally as important.

As a long time Rotarian, I believe firmly in the values of Rotary and try every day to live by them, first of all Service above self. There are 4 pillars in Rotary to live by and I bring them to all my business dealings and will do so as Councillor. First, is it the truth, Second, is it fair to all concerned, Third, will it build good will and better friendships and Fourth, will it be beneficial to all concerned.

Focus

I wish for our City to continue to grow. I want for every family whether it be the highest income family or the lowest, to be proud of our City and the opportunities it can provide for our youth going forward.

To this end, I believe there is work to be done in intergovernmental relations.
Being a Border City, this is a large task being in front of two provincial governments to have our voice both heard and respected. It is also a very important task that requires diligent follow up and investigation. I have had experience dealing with both Provincial governments in my roles as Chamber President and with the fire services and look forward to being active in this role as I am passionate about it and it is very much in the best interest of our City to do so.

There is much work to do and I look forward to the challenge. In the battle between rock and stream, stream always wins. Not because of anything but persistence. This motto I take forward as well in all aspects of my life. I look forward to serving the citizens of this City.
