The City of Lloydminster aims to support safe transportation routes for residents and industry alike. Through the designated dangerous good and trucking routes, vehicles exceeding 7,500 kg and/or transporting materials of a dangerous nature must follow the established dangerous goods and truck routes.
What are Dangerous Goods?
Dangerous goods are products which host a specific risk or safety concern within their nature. Dangerous goods may be gases, liquids or solids which could be explosive, flammable, combustible, oxidizing, poisonous, nuclear or corrosive.
When transporting, these materials must be properly identified with a placard on this shipping container and/or mode of transportation.
What Constitutes a Truck?
For the purposes of City of Lloydminster's transportation and traffic bylaws, a truck/heavy vehicle is any vehicle over 7,500 kilograms or more than 11 metres in overall length.
Routes
Vehicles carrying dangerous goods and heavy vehicles must adhere to the dangerous goods and truck routes, except for loading or unloading, provided the shortest distance to and from the designated truck route is used.

Additional Information
The City of Lloydminster initiated a study in January 2019 to update and develop the dangerous goods routes and truck routes within the municipal boundaries. The purpose of the study was to provide safe and efficient options for travel and transportation within city limits.
The need to update the routes, originally consisting of 44 Street (Highway 16) and 50 Avenue (Highway 17), was first identified in the 2015 Transportation Master Plan.
