Fire Pit Regulations

Backyard fire pits are allowed in the Lloydminster city limits – bylaws do apply.

Key points to remember are:

  • All fire pits (including those with legs and lifted off the ground) and propane fire pits must be placed 10 feet away from combustible material including buildings, property lines, brush, trees, or other flammable material.
  • The fire pit shall not exceed one metre in width, height, or diameter when measured at the widest points.
  • A spark arrester mesh screen with openings 1.25cm or less and made of expanded metal must be used to cover the fire pit opening. This is to reduce airborne sparks.
  • Only the burning of clean wood products is allowed within the City of Lloydminster.
  • Open air fires must always be supervised by a responsible adult.
  • A means of extinguishment should be on-hand while burning. This can be a garden hose or a fire extinguisher.

For more information, please review the Fire Bylaw 025-2015.

Fire Prevention Week

During Fire Prevention Week, the Lloydminster Fire Department reminds residents advanced planning is critical to avoiding tragedy during a fire. It is also critical to develop an escape plan with multiple exits and ensure all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functional.

 2022 Fire Prevention Week

The Lloydminster Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week, October 9-15, 2022. This year’s campaign, Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.
