
Lloydminster, SK – On January 9, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., the Lloydminster RCMP attempted a traffic stop with a vehicle on 43 Street near 48 Avenue for a traffic infraction. The driver did not stop for police and continued driving around throughout Lloydminster in a dangerous manner. The driver was followed by police on 44 Street and was observed driving across the median, running red lights, and making several U-turns in an attempt to continue to flee, creating a dangerous situation for motorists on the roadway.
Lloydminster RCMP deployed several tire deflation devices, and the driver struck and damaged a police car while evading the device. Police were able to get the vehicle stopped after a successful deployment. During the ensuing confrontation, the male driver fought with police and resisted arrest.
Police arrested and charged Sean Ruda, 39, of Lloydminster, with:
- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Flight from peace officer
- Resist peace officer
- Assault on a Police Officer with a weapon
- Fail to comply with undertaking condition
Ruda was held in custody and will appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Lloydminster on January 11, 2021.
