Lloydminster, AB/SK – The Lloydminster region’s newest event facility could house two NHL-sized indoor ice surfaces, one of which includes 2,000-plus seating for events, and a third NHL-sized outdoor surface following Council’s approval for Administration to proceed with the next design phase of the Lloydminster Place project.
The Lloydminster Place project recommendations presented to Council are:
- Two indoor NHL-sized sheets of ice and one outdoor NHL-sized sheet of ice.
- Open-ended bowl configuration allowing for maximum expansion capability.
- Event arena seating capacity: 2,000 (+/-) permanent seats in 12 rows and 550 (+/-) telescopic bleacher seats in the event arena, totalling 2,550 (+/-) seats.
- Community arena seating capacity: 500 (+/-) seats.
- Premium seating options:
- Suites, expanding capacity to 150-250 (+/-) seat capacity
- A mixture of executive rail, loge boxes and accessibility seating along the concourse to meet community needs.
- Dressing rooms:
- x8 large (750 sq. ft. +/-)
- x4 medium (500 sq. ft. +/-)
- x2 referee (500 sq. ft. +/-), one per indoor ice sheet
- x5 private (various sizing), based on community need
The proposed design options are not final as planning is still under consideration. The concept design approval ensures Administration is aligning the Lloydminster Place project with Council’s vision and allows Administration to continue with the next steps of the design phase.
Design concepts of the multi-purpose facility were first presented to Council during the Governance and Priorities Committee meeting on March 21, 2022.
Your Place, Your Experience Engagement Campaign
The survey focused on expectations for future experiences, amenities, accessibility, events and uses. In promoting awareness of the survey and soliciting a strong public response, members of the project team participated in a series of in-person engagement events throughout the community. These interactive events provided members of Council and Administration an opportunity for conversation with residents about recreation in Lloydminster and the City’s work to design, fund and construct the new facility.
The survey was open from February 14 to March 5, 2022, and the findings were first presented to Council on March 21, 2022. The survey’s What We Heard report is available at LloydminsterPlace.ca.
