When is the 2024 byelection? |
The City of Lloydminster's byelection is on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Advanced polling opportunities will be published once approved. For more information, visit Lloydminster.ca/how-to-vote. |
Where can I find information about the candidates? |
A list of candidates will available at Lloydminster.ca/candidate-info. Electorates are strongly encouraged to research the candidates to make their vote an informed vote. |
When is the 2024 byelection nomination period? |
Nomination period for the byelection will be from January 3-9, 2024. All nominations shall be submitted before 4 p.m. on January 9, 2024 to be accepted. Download the nomination package. |
Why isn't the seat for Mayor on the election ballot? |
Pursuant to Section 77 of the Local Elections Act, 2015, notice of abandonment of poll for the Office of Mayor of Lloydminster was provided on Thursday, October 8, 2020, duly electing Gerald S. Aalbers as Mayor of Lloydminster. A poll, or an election for a position, is considered abandoned when the number of candidates is equal to or lesser than the number of available or vacant positions. |
Why can't I vote for the Lloydminster Catholic School Division board trustees? |
Pursuant to Section 77 of the Local Elections Act, 2015, notice of abandonment of poll for the board trustees for the Lloydminster Catholic School Division No. 89 was provided on Thursday, October 8, 2020, duly electing the seven nominees who came forward. A poll, or an election for a position, is considered abandoned when the number of candidates is equal to or lesser than the number of available or vacant positions. |
Do I have to register to vote? |
No, you are not required to register to vote. However, you must present appropriate identification before voting. For more information, visit Lloydminster.ca/how-to-vote. |
How old do I have to be to vote? |
You must be at least 18 years old on election day – Tuesday, February 13, 2024. |
When and where can I vote? |

I am a new Canadian, am I eligible to vote? |
Congratulations on becoming a Canadian citizen. As a new Canadian, you may be eligible to vote in the Lloydminster civic election. Visit Lloydminster.ca/how-to-vote for complete eligibility requirements. |
I own property in Lloydminster, but I don’t live there, can I still vote? |
You do not have to live in Lloydminster to be able to vote. However, you must be the property owner of assessable land in the City of Lloydminster for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding election day. |
I have permanent resident (PR) status in Canada. Can I become a candidate or vote? |
No. The Government of Canada does not allow permanent residents to vote or run for office at any government level. |
I am mobility impaired or do not have access to transportation. Is assistance available to me? |
Mail-in ballots are now available upon request. Mail-in ballots are intended for those who will be out of town during the advanced polls and election day, or those with serious medical/physical impairments. I am out of town on election day. What are my voting options? |
