Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre

Welcome to the Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre ("BCHCC"). We are a public art gallery, history gallery, wildlife taxidermy display, and interactive heavy oil science centre. The galleries and exhibits reflect the breadth of human experience through art, heritage, and science displays.
Our gift shop offers fine gifts and mementos, and is located on site at the BCHCC.
Lloydminster's Earliest Permanent European Settlers: The Barr Colonists
The BCHCC is named for the Barr Colonists, the 1,500 British Citizens who, in 1903, followed Reverend Isaac Barr across the ocean to become the first European settlers in what was later to become Lloydminster. Once in "the promised land," the colonists asked another Anglican clergyman, Reverend George Exton Lloyd, to replace Reverend Barr as their leader. The settlement was named to reflect this change in leadership, and today, the name of the city still represents that early leader.
The Barr Colony Collection and BCHCC Redevelopment
The BCHCC's permanent collection contains a large number of objects related to the Barr Colony. Unfortunately, the area of the museum that houses that collection was built on a low-lying piece of ground with a high water table and poor drainage, and as a result, the collection has been at risk. A small number of the furniture pieces and everyday objects of the Barr Colonists that the Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre holds in its permanent collection are currently on display. The remainder of the collection is presently being moved into a new storage facility, and staff are currently examining options for exhibiting more of these pieces in the future.
