Curbside collection is the City of Lloydminster's program for collecting organics, recycling and garbage.
Residents receive one green bin to dispose of organic materials and one grey bin to dispose of garbage. Residents are responsible for purchasing blue bags to recycle other materials including cardboard and plastic.
Curbside collection occurs by zones and it happens in your neighbourhood on the same day all year, including holidays. The only exceptions are Christmas Day and New Year's Day when collection takes place one day earlier. Not sure what zone you're in? Review the curbside collection zoning map.
Did you know?
Did you know that more than 8,420 single and multi-family homes participate in the curbside collection program? Since its inception in April 2013, the program has diverted over 30,000 tonnes from the landfill.

Frequently Asked Questions
The following list are commonly asked questions. If your question is not included, please contact Waste Services at the number proceeding the FAQs.
What is the collection schedule?
Grey (garbage) carts and recycling is picked up weekly. Green (organics) carts are picked up weekly from April through November, then switch to twice-monthly from November to April. The collection calendar is available for download.
What zone am I in? | ||||
A curbside collection zoning map is available for download.
My cart was damaged, lost or stolen. Can I get a replacement?
To request cart repair or report a missing cart, complete the Report a Concern form or call Waste Services at 780-874-3700, Ext 2794.
Why wasn't my cart emptied?
The placement of your cart(s) is important. If your grey and/or green cart(s) were not collected, make sure you are following the appropriate steps:
|
||||
Tomorrow is a holiday. Will curbside collection still occur?
Yes. Curbside collection still happens on holidays. The only exception to this rule is Christmas Day and New Year's Day. If your collection day falls on either of these holidays, place your cart appropriately on the curb one day early.
My grey cart is full, where can I put my extra garbage?
Garbage set beside the cart or overflowing from the cart will not be picked up. Additional garbage can be taken to the landfill for free, or if possible, hold onto excess garbage until the next scheduled pickup day.
My green cart is full, where can I put my extra organics?
Excess organics set beside the cart or overflowing from the cart will not be picked up. If possible, hold onto excess organics until the next scheduled pickup day, or use a backyard composter.
|
||||
Why do my carts have an RFID tag?
RFID systems are common in the solid-waste industry, as more communities are recognizing the significant benefits. By implementing the system, the City of Lloydminster will, over time, identify opportunities to improve existing service and divert more waste from the landfill. Using RFIDs, the City of Lloydminster can also verify collection services - enhancing customer service.
|
||||
What bin does Styrofoam go in?
Polystyrene foam, commonly called Styrofoam, is a cheap insulator for food and homes and is often used as a packing material. The City's curbside collection services cannot clean, store or transport Styrofoam for recycling. Residents must place Styrofoam in the waste (grey) cart. Recycling (blue bags) and organics (green) carts containing Styrofoam will be in violation and will not be picked up. |
||||
Can I put an old stereo in the garbage?
No. Electronics, among many other household items are accepted at the landfill. For a complete list of accepted items, visit Lloydminster.ca/landfill. |
||||
Why do I not get a discount for organics collection from November to April? |
||||
The waste and recycling collection fee on the utility bill already accounts for the change in collection frequency of the organics in the winter. The City of Lloydminster charges a fixed fee throughout the year for administrative efficiency. |
||||
Christmas Day and New Year's Day are on weekdays this year. When will my carts and recycling be collected?
There is no curbside collection on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. This year's collection will be on Friday, December 22 and Friday, December 29, respectively.
How can I dispose of a natural Christmas tree?
From January 8-12, 2024, natural, undecorated Christmas trees will be accepted as part of curbside collection. Simply place your tree on the curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day and the City will remove it for you. From December 27, 2023, to January 20, 2024, natural, undecorated Christmas trees will accepted at the landfill. |
