Note: If your collection day falls on Christmas Day or New Year's Day, place your items out one day early.
Residents receive one green bin to dispose of organic materials and one grey bin to dispose of garbage. Residents are responsible for purchasing blue bags to recycle other materials including cardboard and plastic.
Curbside collection occurs by zones and it happens in your neighbourhood on the same day all year, including holidays. The only exception to this rule is Christmas Day and New Year's Day when collection typically takes place one day earlier. Not sure what zone you're in? Review the curbside collection zoning map.

RFID Tag Frequently Asked Questions
What is RFID and what should I know about it? |
Radio-frequency Identification, or RFID, is like the barcodes you'd recognize on most retail purchased items. Each ID number is unique to your waste and organics cart. During curbside collection, the tag will relay the address and time and date of collection to a reader located within the collection truck. This information is stored on a private, secured database and is only accessed by authorized personnel. In the future, all collected data will be analyzed to make improvements to the City of Lloydminster's curbside collection program. |
What are the benefits of having an RFID tag on my carts? |
RFID systems are common in the solid-waste industry, as more communities are recognizing the significant benefits. By implementing the system, the City of Lloydminster will, over time, identify opportunities to improve existing service and divert more waste from the landfill. Using RFIDs, the City of Lloydminster can also verify collection services – enhancing customer service. |
What should I expect during the RFID installation period? |
You are not required to do anything other than ensure waste (grey) and organics (green) carts are on the curb on your regularly scheduled collection days between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. from September 7-18, 2020. |
How will I know the RFID tags are installed on my carts? |
You will notice a barcode tag installed on the back of your cart under the handle. Please do not remove the tag. Once the tags are installed, you may roll your carts back to your property. |
What if the RFID tag has fallen off my cart, what should I do? |
If the tag falls off your cart, please call the Operations Centre at 780-874-3700. |
Is there an additional fee for the installation of RFID tags? |
No, there is no additional cost. |
Safety |
To keep everyone safe and to mitigate the risks of COVID-19, GFL Environmental Inc. crews will be wearing masks and gloves during the installation process. Crews will also sanitize the carts’ touch points prior to handling and installation. Residents are requested to avoid unnecessary interaction to avoid delay and mitigate the risks of COVID-19. |
Privacy |
The City of Lloydminster is committed to protecting your privacy. The RFID system will collect information such as addresses and date and time of collection. This information is collected in accordance with the Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP). The RFID system will not collect personal information. If you have any questions about the collection, contact the LAFOIP Head at 780-871-8328. |

Recycling organic materials in the green cart diverts waste from the landfill and is collected either weekly or twice-monthly throughout the year. The City of Lloydminster is now collecting organics weekly until November, when it will change to twice-monthly pickup. With the absence of yard waste, the City observes an 80 per cent decrease in curbside organics collection during the winter. The following items can be recycled in the organics cart:

Waste curbside collection is collected weekly. The following items can be placed in your waste cart:
Once collected, household waste is transported to the Lloydminster Sanitary Landfill where it is sorted and recycled according to materials. |

Recycling (blue or clear bag) |

Blue bag recycling collection is an easy, efficient and eco-friendly way to recycle. Using blue bags allows a higher volume of recyclables to be placed out with greater ease so residents can recycle more:
Once collected, blue bag recyclables are processed at a materials recovery facility and are sorted according to type: metal, plastics and fibres (cardboard). The items are then recycled. |
