 2018 winter organics collection schedule

Curbside collection is the City of Lloydminster's program for collecting recycling, organics and garbage.

Residents receive one green bin to dispose of organic materials and one grey bin to dispose of garbage. Residents are responsible for purchasing blue bags to recycle other materials including cardboard and plastic.

Curbside collection occurs by zones and it happens in your neighbourhood on the same day all year. Not sure what zone you're in? Review the Curbside Collection Zoning Map.

What to put in each cart and bag

Organics cart (green bin)

 Glass decroations
Place these items, and any other glass items in your grey garbage bin, or take them to the Landfill.
Plastic decorations
Place these items, and any other plastic materials such as packaging, bags and many others in your blue bag.
 Christmas lights
Holiday lights and other electronics can be taken the the Lloydminster Landfill where they will be placed with other electronic items.

Natural Christmas trees

During the Christmas season the City offers Christmas tree pickup and collection. The 2018/2019 Christmas tree pickup is availble during the regular curbside collection pickup from January 9-10, 14 and 15. All natural trees must be undecorated and placed on the curbside prior to 7 a.m. on the day of your regular curbside collection.

Christmas tree drop off is available from December 27-31, 2018 and January 2- 19, 2019 at the Lloydminster Landfill. Please contact the Landfill for specific hours of operations.

All Christmas trees donated through this collection will be turned into wood mulch and used within the community.

Cart use guidelines

Placement of carts is important! The automated arm on the truck can only operate if it has enough clearance to maneuver. Follow these easy steps to ensure easy collection.

  • Have your cart out by 7 a.m. on your collection day
  • Place your carts so that the wheels are to the curb (facing forward)
  • Do not park in front of carts and blue bags until they have been collected
  • Keep your carts one metre (an arm's length) apart so the truck's robotic arm can grab it
  • Ensure that the lid is fully closed. Overflowing carts not be emptied
  • Extra bags outside the cart will not be picked up (except for blue bags). Loose material will not be collected
  • Residents can take excess garbage bags to the Lloydminster Sanitary Landfill free of charge

Curbside distances

How to take care of your cart

  • Store your cart away from direct sunlight.
  • Rinse your organics carts weekly. You can use diluted bleach or a water-vinegar solution to minimize the odour. A small amount of laundry detergent, powdered lime or baking soda layered at the bottom of your cart can also help control odour.
  • Bag items inside the kitchen catcher with a biodegradable bag or brown paper bags.
  • You may choose to use larger paper biodegradable sacks to line your organics cart, but it is not required.

Winter curbside cart removal

To accommodate future snow removal operations, residents should remove their waste and organic carts from the curb in a timely manner. Snow removal vehicles and equipment, including graders, plows and trucks, require clear streets complete snow removal operations. By removing waste and organic carts from the curb as soon as possible following collection, residents will enable City crews to manage snow removal effectively.

To address reduced seasonal waste needs, the City of Lloydminster will begin its annual, bi-weekly organics collection November 12, 2018.

With the absence of yard waste, the City observes an 80 per cent decrease in curbside organics collection during the winter. Weekly organics collection resumes in the spring.

If your cart is damaged or stolen, please contact the Waste Services team.
