Lloydminster, AB/SK – Traffic along Highway 16 (44 Street) will soon switch to the north side of the highway as the first phase of the rehabilitation project nears completion.
The concrete intersection is nearly complete, allowing crews to prepare to pave the remaining areas of the highway between 59 Avenue and 75 Avenue. Only when the concrete portions are fully cured will traffic be permitted on the roadway. Weather permitting, the curing time will coincide with the completion of paving.
Phase I is anticipated to be completed by Friday, August 13, 2021, with traffic transitioning to the north side of the highway beginning the week of Monday, August 16, 2021, weather permitting.
Once Phase II begins, business access along Highway 16 south will be restricted from the highway for east- and westbound motorists, allowing crews to work in a safe work environment while completing multiple tasks at one time.
The City of Lloydminster is in discussions with the contractor regarding temporary business access at one crossing along Highway 16. However, this will depend on construction timelines and traffic flow along Highway 16. Additional details will be provided as Phase II draws closer.
