The final week has arrived. Christmas is around the corner and the last-minute shoppers are hard at it. Heck, some are still thinking about December 24 and making shopping trips to pick up the first things on their list. I just want to remind Ron Weaver and a few other great gentlemen, (sometimes I need to be reminded myself) it’s almost time to get at it! I know Terra and the other ladies would appreciate it!
As the big day approaches, I remember many experiences and thoughts about past Christmases.
The childhood memories and more recent memories as a dad. The songs on the radio continue to work their magic to help get us all into the Christmas spirit. I am sure everyone has that special Christmas song or carol. My wife loves the Christmas with Boney M album. I am fond of Here Comes Santa Claus. Carols remind me of Christmas concerts and elementary teachers working so hard to prepare for that special night. One of my favourite memories is the final part of the Christmas concert when the original meaning of Christmas—the Birth of Jesus—is shared and the audience would break out into song and Here Comes Santa Claus would greet the jolly man himself as he delivered treat bags for all.
When I was younger the turkey and ham were always tasty. As I got older and of the age to wash dishes, I had the pleasure to settle into the sink and wash dishes, plates, cups, cutlery and pots until my arms went sore. Grandma, mom, and my aunts spared nothing at Christmas, but all those dishes seemed a little excessive don’t you think!
The past few years as we gather, I look at our grown children and remember when they were younger and the great memories we made each Christmas. Sleighing, hotdog roasts and ice skating, ice fort building, and the food; each person has their special treats that get made for the joyous season. We have been blessed to travel to be with family most Christmas’ and love the opportunities to connect, play games and just have fun being together.
I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our family to yours. I especially want to say thank you to our RCMP, the fire department, EMS and health care workers and pastors who will be working Christmas Day.
May all your days be blessed.
