Where does time go in the oil patch? Every day, someone is working in an industry near and dear to my heart, our community and a much larger surrounding area. Oil has played a huge role in the growth of our community, our provinces and Canada as a whole. Once again, this fall, our city is pleased to host the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show.
The Lloydminster Oilfield Technical Society (OTS) is hosting the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show (LHOS) from September 11-12, 2024, at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association. The bi-annual show, organized by volunteers of the OTS Club, showcases the many facets of the heavy oil industry.
Advancements in technology are on display and are often even unveiled at the show to provide customers and others with the opportunity to see, touch and experience the leading-edge technology developments our area and industry are noted for. Since oil was discovered in 1938 and came into commercial production in 1943, locals have strived to produce and manage oil and the by-products better, faster and safer.
The number of inventions, patents, techniques and practices that have been developed to deal with the heavy oil that is found in our area are too numerous to mention. Individuals and companies have experienced great times and really hard times. The price of oil has soared and fallen off the charts, yet everyone today goes to work to produce the thick and sticky Lloydminster heavy oil. The oil show allows inventors, suppliers, producers and governments from local to international, and the general public, the opportunity to connect, meet and do some business during the show. New companies will be showcased with their products or service offerings as well.
The Lloydminster Heavy Oil show will follow a similar pattern as past shows. Tickets are now available for the banquet and opening ceremonies on Tuesday, September 10. The dinner will be followed by a fireside chat featuring Jeff Lawson, vice president of Cenovus Energy, and Kendall Dilling, president of Pathways Alliance. Discussion topics promise to be relevant and interesting. Tickets are available at LHOS.ca
The show opens to industry and the public on Wednesday, September 11. This year, each day of the show will feature a ticketed luncheon presentation. Wednesday’s luncheon will feature Saskatchewan’s premier, Scott Moe, and a soon-to-be-confirmed Alberta government representative to discuss energy development and the future from a provincial view. Thursday’s luncheon features representatives from the energy industry who will be sharing their thoughts as we move forward in 2024 and beyond. The luncheons are ticketed as well with tickets available on the website. LHOS.ca
As always, entrance to the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show and its displays is free of charge. I look forward to seeing you there.
