The change of seasons is a beautiful thing when everyone cooperates. Lately, there appears to be a disconnect between Mother Nature and Father Winter. I have faith, and I hope that you do too that the snow will leave, and green grass will return. Perhaps there’ll even be a mosquito or two—even swatting a mosquito sounds attractive.
Even though we haven’t been able to continue our regular life with the current pandemic, we can enjoy the beautiful sunshine and the warming of the spring air. Spring is attempting to take hold with melting snow and flocks of birds singing in the trees. Even the geese have come back and have been hanging out on the ice, waiting for the arrival of spring and open water.
As we await spring in earnest, please check in with your neighbours and friends while respecting social distancing. Please take this time to pick up the phone and reach out to those you haven’t spoken to in a while. Everyone could use more connection.
The trails and city walking paths are available for use and are a great way to take in some fresh air. Maybe someday soon it will even be warm fresh air. Take time each day—unless you are under a quarantine order—to get out and enjoy that sun that is trying so hard to bring us spring. A change of scenery certainly helps to keep us on an even keel. Make sure you smile at those you meet. We’re physical distancing, not robots.
During this difficult time, we are all experiencing challenges. I encourage you to keep being Lloydminster, keep sharing, keep caring and keep smiling. We are a city of resilient people and part of what makes us this way is the way we care for others.
Let’s stick together—while not making physical contact. Together we stand, and together we support each other. Reach out if you are in need. You matter, we all matter, together we will make it through.
