Lloydminster, AB/SK – While many Alberta businesses reopened on Monday, May 4, 2020, businesses whose properties or practices are within Lloydminster city limits are not entitled to reopen.
A timeline for reopening businesses in the community remains unknown. However, the City of Lloydminster continues its regular correspondence with the Lloydminster Hospital, Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority in determining the next steps for Lloydminster. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
“As previously stated, Alberta’s reopening plan announced on Thursday, April 30, has no bearing for businesses and residents within our community,” said Jordan Newton, Manager of Emergency Measures Operations. “As declared in the State of Local Emergency, the City continues to abide by the orders implemented under the Saskatchewan Public Health Act and the recommendations of the Saskatchewan Chief Medical Health Officer.”
On Friday, May 1, City Administration received confirmation from the Saskatchewan Minister of Rural and Remote Health that Lloydminster is not eligible to participate in the phased reopening of business and services. More information is available at Saskatchewan.ca.
Until further notice, all previously implemented restrictions and social distancing measures under the State of Local Emergency remain in effect for the businesses and residents of Lloydminster. All measures introduced under this declaration supersede the direction of an organization's provincial governing body (professional associations, etc.). Per the Lloydminster Charter, the City of Lloydminster is compelled to abide by orders issued under the Saskatchewan Health Act.
