Lloydminster, AB/SK – The spray park will bring summer fun to Lloydminster families as will the eventual reopening of the Bioclean Aquatic Centre.
Currently spanning three months, COVID-19 has delayed the opening of many outdoor amenities; however, City of Lloydminster recreation staff are diligently working to reopen the spray park at Bud Miller All Seasons Park following Tuesday’s announcement by the Government of Saskatchewan.
"Spray parks and swimming are something almost every child and adult yearns for. These facilities opening is like the unofficial beginning of summer," said Mayor Gerald Aalbers of the province's Phase 4, Part 1 announcement, scheduled to begin on Monday, June 22, 2020. "The opportunity to move forward with opening some of our summer amenities is huge for the community. We do want to remind everyone who intends to use these amenities to continue following the health and safety guidelines outlined by the Saskatchewan government and health authorities."
Indoor pools can begin opening during the second part of Phase Four of the Re-open Saskatchewan plan. An opening date for the Bioclean Aquatic Centre is not yet determined as the City awaits further direction and guidance from the Saskatchewan government.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the inability to plan for items or facility usages, the Outdoor Pool will not be opening in 2020.
“The pandemic’s impact on our daily life and recreational habits have been difficult for many in our community, and we understand this information may not be welcome news for the various user groups,” said Mayor Aalbers. “Unfortunately, the timing of the Saskatchewan announcement on Phase 4.1, and the imposed guidelines, does not grant adequate time for City staff to prepare the Outdoor Pool for the 2020 season,” adding the pool takes approximately five weeks to prepare for public use.
