Lloydminster, AB/SK – Tennis, disc golf and other outdoor individual sports will return to the Border City in the coming days as the City of Lloydminster completes annual preparations to open municipal amenities.
The Government of Saskatchewan announced updated guidelines for outdoor, individual non-contact sports, which allows the resumption of play during the pandemic effective Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Those wanting to play are asked to adhere to the following guidelines, in addition to the other public health measures outlined in the public health order.
Preparing to play
- Do not play if feeling unwell or exhibit any symptoms, such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
- Wash hands with soap and water, and bring hand sanitizer approved by Health Canada.
- Clean equipment.
- Consider wearing a mask while playing if two metres of physical distance cannot be maintained.
- Avoid commonly touched surfaces. Wash hands and disinfect any surfaces, including door handles, gates and benches.
Gameplay
- Singles play is recommended. Doubles play is permitted as long as participants are from the same household.
- Be sure to arrive just before your scheduled time to prevent queuing or gathering.
- No sharing of equipment (e.g. racquets, discs).
- Respect physical distancing of two metres with other players at all times – on and off the playing surface.
- For racquet sports, use two cans of balls with distinct markings or numbers (e.g. tennis balls or pickle balls). If necessary, only use your own.
- As much as possible, use your racquet or foot to pass the balls to another player.
Post Gameplay
- Wash your hands with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer approved by Health Canada (DIN or NPN).
- Leave the playing area immediately after you complete play.
Organizers
- Limit gathering by making all communal/public areas, including bleachers, inaccessible.
- Stagger booking times to ensure a buffer between participants.
- When possible, online reservations and payments are recommended.
- Encourage physical distancing of two metres. When possible, keep a record of participants using the facility.
