
Lloydminster, AB/SK – City Administration can begin planning for the decommissioning of the Lloydminster Cultural and Science Centre (LCSC) after City Council’s decision to close the building effective immediately following the Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Special Council meeting.
The decision to close the facility and plan for the decommissioning and demolition of the building came after Council decided to relocate programming traditionally held at the Lloydminster Cultural and Science Centre and the Lloydminster Regional Archives at the June 22, 2020, Council meeting.
Services provided by the Barr Colony Heritage Society, Richard Larsen Barr Colony Foundation will not be interrupted due to the closure or the relocation of the LCSC.
With the facility closed, Administration can prepare to move to a commercial leased premise, which is under procurement until July 10, 2020. The approximate 11,000 to 15,000 square feet of space will be used for arts and culture production space, allowing for presentations, exhibits, artifacts and ancillary space. The targeted occupancy date is March 1, 2021, or earlier.
