Lloydminster, AB/SK – Dog and feline owners are no longer required to purchase a pet licence after City Council passed an updated Domestic Animal Bylaw during the Council meeting on Monday, January 11, 2021.
To reduce administrative time and costs associated with dog and feline pet licences, Administration approved the discontinuation of licence requirements. In exchange, pet owners are now required to identify the animal with a tag that includes an operational phone number to allow for a prompt return should an animal be found astray. Tags will be at the expense of the pet owner.
The revised bylaw also differentiates attacks committed by a domestic animal on another animal or a person. These incidents are divided into two categories, with corresponding penalties reflecting the seriousness of each offence.
Lastly, the updated bylaw addresses the domestic animal requirements in any lands annexed by the City of Lloydminster during the bylaw’s lifespan. With the possible annexation process involving the City of Lloydminster and the County of Vermillion River, a transitional clause was put into the bylaw to clarify animal control on any lands annexed during the existence of this bylaw.
