Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster is updating its Land Use Bylaw, one of the community’s most important documents. This document guides development activities for residents, businesses, and landowners and is intended to make Lloydminster a great place to live, work, and enjoy.
Lloydminster residents are invited to provide their input through an online and paper survey until Thursday, April 4, 2024, to ensure the updated bylaw meets current and future community needs. Interested parties will also have an opportunity to attend multiple open houses at the Servus Sports Centre and the LloydMall over the next three weeks.

The goals of updating the land use bylaw are to:
- make the land use bylaw more transparent and accessible for businesses and residents;
- reduce red tape to facilitate timely approvals;
- support and encourage economic growth and prosperity for Lloydminster;
- consider land development trends and promote compatible development;
- better align with existing City plans and policies like the Municipal Development Plan and Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan; and
- reflect the comments and ideas received through community engagement activities.
A land use bylaw is directed by provincial legislation and divides the municipality into land use districts, which regulate the types of development that can be built. As the most detailed document guiding development in Lloydminster, this document needs to reflect the needs and wants of the community. For this reason, it is essential to have the community involved throughout the update process.
The feedback collected through the survey will help inform the recommendations of the City of Lloydminster’s review and update of the Land Use Bylaw. The findings will be summarized in a future What We Heard report.
