Lloydminster, AB/SK – Lloydminster City Council had a first look at the now-Lloydminster Museum & Archives’s new visual identity and design concepts as to how it may be used within the new facility scheduled to open later this year.
Intentionally abstract, the new identity provides space for various interpretations depending on the audience. The bold, intersecting lines are reminiscent of a roadmap, encouraging exploration and discovery. While the bright, neutral colours reflect the lakes, waterways, forests, and open prairies central to the natural history of our region.
The lines, shapes and colours culminate in a modern and eye-catching visual identity that honours local and regional artists – past and present – while conveying an inviting and energetic feel with a sense of new beginnings.
The facility’s new identity was presented to Council as part of the Governance and Priorities Committee meeting on August 16, 2021.
Considerations to Stakeholder Engagement
Recognizing the importance of past and future stakeholder participation, the City of Lloydminster conducted a comprehensive community engagement project to develop the new identity. Spanning mid-2020 to late March 2021, the engagement process included surveys, letters, emails, workbooks and in-person conversations, all designed to generate input from user groups and key stakeholders. Once summarized, key themes and priorities emerged:
- preservation and recognition of local history
- encouragement of creativity and showcasing of local artworks
- fresh and interactive exhibits
- enhanced youth involvement
