Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster has a new public art sculpture called Into the Mystic installed at 53 Avenue and 26 Street at Messum Park. The sculpture is the creation of local artist, Mick Classen, and is the newest addition to the City of Lloydminster's public art program. The City's Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) was excited to add to the collection of public art and worked with the artist to ensure that the sculpture was a good fit for the neighbourhood. "We feel that Into the Mystic Is a good representation of Lloydminster as a community, given its Industrial spirit and fits well into the atmosphere of Messum Park" says PAAC Chairperson Otis Rusling. The sculpture is made entirely of steel and treated with hydrogen peroxide to create a rusted appearance. The artist behind the work, Mick Classen, says it is a representation not of the 'meaning of life', but rather the significance of the journey and the overcoming obstacles along the way. An unveiling ceremony has been scheduled at Messum Park on Tuesday, August 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Public Art Advisory Committee invites members of the public and the media to attend.
