Led by LMA staff, students will learn about animal adaptations to winter conditions, the history of snowshoeing, and will play games
in snowshoes at Weaver Heritage Park. 

This program is offered from November to March and is weather dependent. (See Cancellation Policy.)

The Log Cabin contains localized heating, please be prepared for winter conditions.

Travel back in time and experience the life of the Barr Colonists through hands-on activities and storytelling. This program offers a blend of historical crafts such as butter making with garden herbs (based on garden availability), cookie baking on a woodstove, historical games, and an option to make traditional yarn dolls or candles. Participants will also enjoy a scavenger hunt around the site and a guided tour of the historic Rendell House. This hands-on program is run seasonally and is available from May- September at Weaver Heritage Park. Please be prepared to be outdoors.

Museums 101

Grades 7-12 2 hours
Price $200 for up to 30 students

Students will discover what goes on behindthe- scenes in a museum. They will get exclusive access to our collection, have an
opportunity to meet our staff that work behind-the-scenes to ensure our artifact collections meet professional standards, talk
about interpreting stories through object based learning and other mediums, and learn what it takes to work in a museum. Students will have an opportunity to handle real museum artifacts while touring the galleries to learn how objects tell stories.

Guided Interpretive Tour

All Grades & Ages | 60-90 minutes
Price $4.50/student up to 30 students

Enjoy a tour led by one of our staff while exploring the Lloydminster Museum + Archives. This tour will lead students through the museum’s permanent exhibit, learning about the history of Lloydminster from Treaty 6 to the trek of the Barr Colonists. Our
Travelling Gallery is included in the Guided Interpretive Tour, based on show availability. 

Tours must be booked at least seven days in advance and are provided in English.

Pioneers on the Prairies

Pre-K – Grade 5 | 90 minutes
Price $150 for up to 30 students

Students will travel back in time to 1903 and follow the footsteps of the Barr Colonists as they made their way to the Canadian prairies. Students will experience a day-in-the-life and learn what it takes to be a pioneer. Along the way, there will be hands-on activities, engaging and immersive stories, and a tour of our museum or historic home. This hands-on program is run year-round in the Lloydminster Museum + Archives, and seasonally at Weaver Heritage Park.

Pottery: Hand Building

Price $190 for up to 25 students

Explore the artistry of clay! Students will gain a foundational understanding of this versatile medium and essential hand-building techniques. Each student will have the opportunity to create their own unique pottery piece. After a required drying period of at least ten days, the pieces will be bisque fired, enabling further decoration in your classroom (see Pottery: Glazing follow-up session for details). You will be notified when the pottery is ready for pickup, typically within three weeks.

Pottery: Glazing (follow-up session)

Price $180 for up to 25 students

This program is a follow-up to our Pottery: Hand Building program. Students will return to paint and glaze their handcrafted pieces.
After glazing, the pottery will undergo a final firing. We will notify you when the finished pieces are ready for pick-up. All students will take home a food-safe, oven-safe, and microwave-safe piece, turning their creative efforts into a practical, durable work of art. Ask us about bringing this session to your classroom for added convenience!

Mask Making

Price $170 for up to 30 students

Students will learn about the purpose of masks in art and drama, as well as the functions of masks in different cultures throughout history. Using plaster strips and plastic facial forms, students will create their own unique masks. You will be contacted once they have dried, and the masks will be available for you to pick up and take back to the classroom to decorate.

Mask Decorating (follow-up session)

Price $160 for up to 30 students

In this follow up session to mask-making, students will learn foundations of character design and apply them to their mask creations using mixed media of their choice. Ask us about bringing this session to your classroom for added convenience!

Pysanky: Ukrainian Egg Decorating

Grades 4-12 | 90 minutes
Price $150 for up to 30 students

Learn the art of Ukrainian Egg Decorating using a traditional tool called a kitska, beeswax, and dyes. Your students will learn about the history and symbolism of these eggs, and they will be able to take them home the day of the school program. Please note that candles and dyes are used in this art form.

The LMA reserves the right to cancel bookings in the following circumstances:

• inclement weather conditions
• unforeseen safety considerations
• facility and/or equipment problems or closures
• instructor or staff illness and/or availability
• program or service materials availability.

In the event that your program is cancelled, you will be notified as soon as possible prior to the start date and you will receive a full refund. Refunds are issued as a cheque through the City of Lloydminster’s Finance Department.

Pre-K - Grade 1 : One adult is required for every five children. Grade 2 and Up: One adult is required for every 10 children. These adults, plus one additional adult, are included in the program fee unless otherwise stated, and must be with the group upon arrival. Please advise the LMA upon booking if you have educational assistants or care aids supervising students that require extra support, for these adults will be admitted free of charge, but will not count toward the supervisor requirements. All additional adults will be charged the regular admission rate.
