The City of Lloydminster, by contract, has retained the services of Superior Safety Codes Inc. to carry out the administration, inspections and issuing of building and plumbing permits as per the National Building Code and other relevant regulations. Therefore, all communication regarding building and plumbing permits and/or inspections should be directed to Superior Safety Codes local office.
Many development projects require both a development permit and a building permit prior to beginning construction. You should check with both parties to see what the requirements are in order to ensure that your development isn't held up.
A development permit is issued through Planning and Development and reviews setbacks, lot coverage and other regulations identified in the Land Use Bylaw. Please ensure you have successfully submitted a Development Permit Application to Planning and Development located at the Operations Centre prior to contacting Superior Safety Codes for Building and Plumbing Permits.
Superior Safety Codes kindly asks that you provide their office with 24-hour notice to arrange for the necessary inspections.
Building and Plumbing Permits and Inspection Services
January 1st, 2021, all building and plumbing permit applications are now submitted to the City of Lloydminster Operations Centre, along with Development Permit Applications (when required) saving customers from having to go to multiple locations to obtain the appropriate permits. While permits will be submitted to the City, Superior Safety Codes Inc, is contracted to carry out the plan reviews and inspections services for all building and plumbing permits as per the National Building Code and other relevant regulations.
Although, applications will be submitted to the City of Lloydminster Operations Centre, all communication regarding Building Code interpretation and submission requirements for building and plumbing permits should be directed to Superior Safety Codes local office.
Inspection requests can be submitted online https://secure.superiorsafetycodes.com/requests. All inspection requests will be completed within 48 hours of submission request.

| When is a building permit required? |
| Building permits are required for most major construction projects. These projects include new buildings, additions, renovations, alterations, repairs, or the change of use in an existing building.
Most construction projects require both a development permit and a building permit prior to beginning construction. Please verify with the City to ensure that all required permits have been issued prior to construction commencement. |
| Why is a building permit required? |
| Permits are part of a process to access compliance to a minimum standard of construction safety for the benefit of all landowners within the City of Lloydminster.
If construction projects are undertaken without required permits, the owner may be subject to penalties and extra costs incurred to bring a project into compliance. As the property owner, you are responsible to obtain all necessary permits. A contractor can look after this on your behalf, however it is still the home owner’s responsibility to ensure that this has been completed. |

Building Permits are calculated at $5.50 per $1000 construction value with a minimum fee of $50.
