1. Tell us a little about your occupation and career history.
For the past four years, I have been the executive director of the Border City Connects Society (formerly the Lloydminster Handivan Society). This organization has evolved into providing various transportation and many other services for our community members. I have also started, owned and operated four businesses over 25 years.
2. What motivated you to seek a chair on City Council?
I am honoured to have been part of the strong foundation built by the previous council, and I was encouraged by friends and associates to put my name in once again. Many unfinished items need to be seen through to completion, and I am looking forward to tackling those projects.
3. What opportunities do you see for the City of Lloydminster over the next four years?
Stronger financial position, diversification of our economy, exploring the option of a Lloydminster-made transit system, continued elimination of red tape and streamlining operational processes as much as possible and continue to work on building an exceptional business environment to strengthen our economy.
4. What does community mean to you?
I love our city, and we have many wonderful organizations and a huge pool of volunteers. I always say that the true measure of a community can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable community members.
5. What does being a part of Team Lloydminster mean to you?
If we work together toward the same goals, we can accomplish great things.
6. What do you believe to be the greatest strength you bring to City Council?
My 25 years in business and community involvement. The many organizations and non-profits I have had the honour to work with and the network that I have developed because of those relationships are significant assets that I am fortunate to possess.
7. What areas or projects of the City are you most passionate about?
Many areas, but I have a great interest in all aspects of water. It is one of the most valuable and underappreciated commodities on earth, and water is the source of all life. So, from water treatment, stormwater and sanitary water right up to wastewater treatment. These are the basic services a municipality provides, and I have great interest and respect for water.
8. What are your hobbies?
Community involvement. I love volunteering and being involved in the community and have had the great privilege of working alongside so many amazing volunteers and all sorts of various leaders and had contact with many multiple sectors of the community.
9. If not originally from Lloydminster, what brought you here?
I moved to Lloydminster in 1989 to start a new business called Relay Distributing. I owned it for many years, and it has been successfully operating for more than 30 years.
10. What movie title describes your life?
The Lucky Guy. I’ve never seen it, but the title reflects how I appreciate my family, friends, community and life.
