The Christmas season is in full swing. The city has decorations out and we all survived Black Friday that somehow became a tradition after American Thanksgiving.
For our retailers, the count down to Christmas has started with cash registers ringing, credit card machines working overtime to capture all the sales of merchandise and gift certificates making it easier to find something special for everyone on your list.
At this time of year, there are smiling faces outdoors or peeping out of masks, others find this time a real struggle. For those of you struggling right now, I want to offer our prayers and support. 2021 had its challenges and offered gifts. I pray that there was somewhat of a balance of these for you this past year.
What can we do to help others this time of year and help make their Christmas brighter? There are various charities in our community that are stocking boxes of donated food to help those in need. Some charities have created a Christmas Wish Book of things that they need to support those in need this holiday season. Donations are being accepted at various stores around the city to fill the stomachs and hearts of those who may not have what they need at this time. Several of our media outlets are collecting new toys for children. Let’s do our part to make Christmas a little brighter for everyone.
One important group that I don’t want to forget is our seniors. Many still live in their own homes, and others have moved to locations that provide more care to help in the challenges of aging and reduced mobility. There are programs like Spread a Little Love this Christmas at the Lloydminster & District Co-op to brighten a senior’s Christmas.
Another sign that Christmas is near is the ringing of the bells and the presence of the Salvation Army Christmas Kettles. You’ll find them throughout the city in various locations. With your generous donations and support, together we can care for each other and work to bring light and life to our city. If you’re in need, please reach out to the different organizations in our city that are here to support you.
I look forward to next week when I will share more about some family traditions.
