Have you ever wondered why the Lloydminster RCMP don’t serve outside the city limits unless called upon for mutual aid?
The RCMP serves Lloydminster via a municipal contract, which is paid through property taxes. Alberta communities beyond city limits are served by the Kitscoty RCMP Detachment, while the Maidstone detachment serves neighbouring Saskatchewan residents. The rural forces are part of RCMP contracts with the respective provincial governments.
As part of the RCMP contract, our community may obtain additional resources from other detachments. Members and equipment from St. Paul, Alta., Edmonton and Regina have provided assistance and resources to ensure public safety and that the country’s laws are abided within Lloydminster.
Showing gratitude
For many, the RCMP conjures up images of RCMP Stetsons and the ceremonial red serge jacket. Over the years, the colours and logos on the RCMP vehicles have changed, as have the models and types of vehicles they drive. At one time, officers carried a service revolver, which has since been replaced by pistols.
For over 100 years, our community has been duly served by the RCMP, and our detachment members are found to be active in our community, schools, service groups and events.
I want to express our thanks to the RCMP members who serve and protect our residents, businesses and guests. I look forward to the RCMP Musical Ride return, the Youth Academy, and other great opportunities to interact with these great men and women who serve in our community.
