We always look forward to summer! We’ve had some great weather already and some much-needed rain. I am sure the children are all ready for the school year to be over, as are the teachers.
If you have not noticed, construction season is in full swing. I would ask for your patience and caution when travelling through or around construction areas. Our team and contractors are working to complete the projects safely and efficiently. When we open 50 Street, we’re replacing pipes from the 1960s and installing new water, sewer and stormwater piping to serve our community for a very long time.
I would like to offer you a quick snapshot of some upcoming activities in our city. Canada Day will be held at Bud Miller All Seasons Park. This year’s celebrations are presented by Co-operators Lloydminster. Activities are scheduled to run from 1-11 p.m. on Saturday, July 1. This event is free for all ages, with activities galore, and the evening will cap off with fireworks. More details can be found at Lloydminster.ca/CanadaDay.
The North American Chuckwagon Championships make their way to the Lloydminster Ex July 6-9 and July 12-16. The event will be held over two weekends and will overlap with the Lloyd Ex Fair. The Lloyd EX Fair runs from July 12-15. The annual fair parade will be held on Wednesday, July 12 check the city website and the Lloyd Ex website for the new parade route. Please also plan to join us for the free Pancake Breakfast Thursday, July 13, from 7-10 a.m. in front of City Hall. All the other activities are held at the Exhibition grounds.
We hope you can travel back in time with us on Heritage Day on August 7. Join us for Heritage Festival at Weaver Heritage Park. The day is filled with activities and is kicked off with a free pancake breakfast from 8:30-10 a.m., with other activities planned until 3 p.m. More information, as it becomes available, will be available at Lloydminster.ca/HeritageDay.
August 16-20 Lloydminster is home to the 2023 edition of the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Finals. This will be the wrap-up of another exciting season of chuckwagon racing. The organizers and drivers look forward to entertaining you as the season finale hits the track.
No matter your plans or lack of them, Christine and I want to wish you and yours a safe and enjoyable summer. We hope your summer is filled with great memories, some pictures and lots of joy.
