Bordering on Disaster Conference

Lloydminster, AB/SK – Lloydminster is set to host a two-part emergency management conference Bordering on Disaster, bringing together leaders in emergency management from across Western Canada. The City of Lloydminster's event includes a half-day virtual spring session and a two-day in-person summer session.

The half-day virtual session, taking place on April 21, 2023, is conveniently scheduled two weeks before the national Emergency Management Preparedness Week (EP Week). This session will discuss key trends surrounding industry and municipal approaches to Emergency Preparedness Week through an inspiring keynote speaker and panel discussions. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions and engage in discussions with their peers.

“Our goal, through the Bordering on Disaster events, is to provide attendees with the knowledge, tools and resources they need to respond to emergencies effectively and to keep their communities safe,” says Andrew DeGruchy, Manager of Emergency Management, City of Lloydminster. “We believe that the combination of virtual and in-person sessions will provide the most value to attendees and help them to better understand and prepare for the ongoing challenges of emergency management.”

The two-day, in-person conference, scheduled for September 13-14, 2023, will showcase several inspirational emergency management speakers, academic speakers and a vendor tradeshow. Attendees will also get to take part in workshops and networking opportunities.

“We’re excited to bring together leaders in emergency management from across Western Canada to share their experiences and insights and to learn from one another,” says DeGruchy. “It’s more important than ever for emergency management professionals to work together and stay informed about the latest developments and best practices.

The Bordering on Disaster planning committee is working diligently to ensure the event benefits individuals and organizations across various industries, including municipal government, transportation, industrial,  emergency services and more. The committee is seeking sponsorship and tradeshow vendors as part of these preparations. Additionally, the committee is accepting speaking abstracts from experienced professionals in emergency management to provide valuable insights and information to attendees.

Early-bird registration is now open and is available at Lloydminster.ca/BOD. For more information about the conference, visit Lloydminster.ca/BODor contact emo@lloydminster.ca.
