Lloydminster, AB/SK – Lloydminster’s newest event facility promises to be the region's sports and entertainment hub as it’s slated to feature state-of-the-art amenities, including two NHL-sized ice surfaces and an outdoor rink and optimal viewing and sound experience.
Constructing Lloydminster Place is estimated at $93.9 million, with an aggressive timeline that is expected to have the multi-use facility operational by early 2026. Initial budget reports came in higher; however, the cost reduction is supported by cost savings through construction efficiencies while maintaining the project's value and experience.
The new multi-rink facility will be located near 40 Avenue and 36 Street. It will include an event arena with a seating capacity of approximately 2,500, complete with executive suites on the third level and specialty seating. A community arena will be perfect for smaller events and community use with approximately 500 seats. All levels of the facility will have barrier-free spectator options.
The facility will boast five private dressing rooms, four on the event arena side and one on the community arena side, ensuring teams have ample space to prepare for their games, and eight public dressing rooms servicing the facility. A large concession area between both arenas on the concourse level will service both the event and community arenas.
Three meeting rooms on the concourse level will be made accessible separately from both arenas, providing a flexible space for corporate meetings, team functions, and events. The outdoor rink, located adjacent to the main building, will have an asphalt pad and lights and is intended to be used year-round.
The facility has been designed with additional accessibility features for sledge hockey, including accessible penalty boxes and team benches.
Pending further federal and provincial grant funding opportunities, the site is anticipated to include four slo-pitch diamonds.

Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup
In April 2022, the Lloydminster Female U13 Blazers made history as the first all-female hockey team to win the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup. The team later donated the $100,000 grand prize to Inclusion Lloydminster, of which $90,000 will be provided as sponsorship to Lloydminster Place to help create better accessibility in the new event facility allowing more community members of varying abilities to play, volunteer and access the ice.
Background
The location for Lloydminster Place was approved during a special council meeting in January 2022. The proposed facility will be constructed just east of 40 Avenue, in the city’s southeast, pending approval of the Wigfield Area Structure Plan.
In 2019, the City of Lloydminster completed a high-level analysis of city-owned facilities. The study analyzed 17 buildings based on factors such as age, condition and capital cost for rehabilitation or renovation and much more. Study results have helped guide budget considerations and community planning.
Each facility report was combined to create a comparative analysis based on the year of construction, building condition rating, estimated costs to maintain and operate, assessment findings and action plan recommendations within the Community Facilities Assessment Report.
