Lloydminster, AB/SK – Greg Solecki, a certified emergency manager and business continuity professional involved in developing international crisis management standards and Canada’s Critical Infrastructure Framework, was announced as the first keynote speaker for the Bordering on Disaster conference presented by Cenovus Energy’s half-day virtual kick off session on April 21, 2023.
With extensive practical experience in disaster management and recovery, Solecki has worked with every disaster response and recovery level, including serving as past president of Canada’s International Association of Emergency Managers. He was also a contributing member of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Global Education & Training Institute.
As an experienced facilitator and ICS instructor for ICS Canada and FEMA, Solecki has extensive knowledge and expertise in emergency management. Most recently, he led the recovery operations for the atmospheric flood event that struck Merritt, B.C. His presentation will bring fundamental teachings and knowledge from many aspects of the emergency management industry, including his experiences in disaster response and recovery.

About Bordering on Disaster
The 2023 Bordering on Disaster conference, presented by Cenovus, includes a half-day virtual spring session and a two-day in-person fall session. The conference brings together emergency management professionals and industry and academic personnel to discuss emerging trends, share best practices and explore new approaches to emergency management. The conference will cover various topics, including disaster risk reduction, response and recovery, business continuity planning and critical infrastructure protection.
The Bordering on Disaster planning committee is working diligently to ensure the event benefits individuals and organizations across various industries, including municipal government, transportation, industrial, emergency services and more. The committee is seeking sponsorship and tradeshow vendors as part of these preparations. Additionally, the committee is accepting speaking abstracts from experienced professionals in emergency management to provide valuable insights and information to attendees.
Half-day virtual session
The half-day virtual session on April 21, 2023, is two weeks before the national Emergency Management Preparedness Week (EP Week). This session will discuss critical trends surrounding industry and municipal approaches to Emergency Preparedness Week through two inspiring keynote speakers and a panel discussion. Attendees will be able to participate in interactive sessions and discussions with their peers.
Two-day in-person session
The two-day, in-person conference, scheduled for September 13-14, 2023, will showcase several inspirational emergency management speakers, academic speakers and a vendor tradeshow. Attendees will also get to take part in workshops and networking opportunities.
