Lloydminster, AB/SK – The intersection of Highway 16 (44 Street) and 62 Avenue continues to be a significant point of interest for construction crews as they continue the necessary excavation, shaping, and base preparation to capitalize on the concrete placement timelines.
The intersection will first be cut to design elevations, granular material placed and compacted, concrete curb and gutter installed. Afterwards, the concrete intersection and approach concrete pads will start to take shape.
The concrete intersection and approach aprons will provide maximum lifecycle return and ensure that large traffic volumes through the intersection can be accommodated for many years. The deep excavation west of 62 Avenue will be repaired with a new asphalt concrete pavement and granular road structure.
Further progress:
- asphalt removals for Phase I is underway,
- final stages of the municipal underground utility infrastructure (water and sanitary sewer) rehabilitations being completed, with minor storm sewer alteration work to be initiated.
- concrete curb and gutter areas removed and prepared to be reconstructed between 66 Avenue and 75 Avenue
Motorists are reminded to allow extra time for travel, slow down when driving in construction zones, and obey all signs, detours, and barriers.
