Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster is proud to announce that the infrastructure required to wholesale Saskatchewan Water Corporation (SaskWater) with safe, clean drinking water is operational.
Through this collaboration, the City and SaskWater worked together to construct and upgrade infrastructure to ensure that the water provided to the community meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards.
“Providing water to the City of Lloydminster’s regional partners strengthens our relationship and provides more opportunities for us to work collaboratively on services that serve the region as a whole. Access to safe and clean drinking water is a fundamental right for all residents, and this partnership will ensure communities serviced by SaskWater have access to the highest quality of water possible.”
Mayor Gerald Aalbers
Project construction was completed in 2022 after beginning in 2019 and was made possible after a memorandum of understanding was signed between the City and SaskWater in 2018.
Lloydminster has been providing potable water to neighbouring communities in Alberta after a memorandum of understanding was signed with Alberta Central East (ACE) Water in 2017.

SaskWater sources water from the City of Lloydminster and distributes it to the communities of Lashburn and Marshall. Once fully constructed, the Prairie North Regional Potable Water Supply System will be expandable to accommodate additional communities in the future.
ACE Water Corporation, a regional entity owned by 12 municipalities, supplies high-quality potable water to the municipalities in Minburn, Two Hills and Vermilion River counties. The full regional system includes 350-plus kilometres of pipeline, two water transfer stations located near Lloydminster and Vegreville, and community fill stations and truck fill stations.
In both cases, the water is supplied from the North Saskatchewan River.
