Lloydminster, AB/SK – A holiday-season program from Think Lloyd First has generated thousands for local charity while also reminding consumers of Lloydminster-made products' diversity and quality.
This past week, Wayside Dental Centre and Brixton Shoes partnered to build and sell ‘made from Lloydminster’ gift boxes. Boxes were available for $40 at Brixton Shoes from November 30 to December 2. All proceeds to the Olive Tree, a not-for-profit organization that works with Lloydminster restaurants, grocers and other businesses to collect and distribute food resources where they are most needed in the community.
Inside each box, customers found:
- Coffee from Prairie Lily Coffee Roasters
- Craft beer from 4th Meridian Brewing Company
- Caramel popcorn from Soup Du Jar
- Honey from Buzz About the Hive
- Secret Sauce from Spiro's
- Homemade jam from Acton's Lower Shannon Farms
The community response to the gift boxes greatly surpassed the organizer’s expectations.
“We are still stunned by how quickly and enthusiastically our generous and community-minded customers embraced the idea. Our first batch of boxes sold out within minutes, and we were left scrambling to make more,” said Dr. Nekky Jamal of Wayside Dental Centre. “With so many amazing locally made items to choose from, our greatest challenge was narrowing it down to just a handful of items. In addition to raising more $8,000 for the Olive Tree, we believe this program will remind holiday shoppers of the great local offerings right here in our own community. Our local businesses need our support now more than ever.”
