Lloydminster, AB/SK – Phase 2 of the Central Business District Replacement Program (downtown construction) is scheduled to begin Saturday, June 10, 2023. This follows the successful completion of Phase 1, which concluded approximately one week ahead of schedule.
Effective 6 a.m., motorists are advised the intersection of 50 Street and 50 Avenue will be closed until early October 2023. Also closed during that time is 50 Street between 50 Avenue and 49 Avenue. The closure is essential to facilitate the ongoing improvements to the underground infrastructure as the City of Lloydminster begins implementing the long-term Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan.
During construction, alternative traffic routes are recommended to minimize disruption to daily commutes. Detour signs will be prominently displayed to guide traffic around the construction zone, with 49 Avenue being the main thoroughfare to travel north/south through the city. Unless making deliveries in the immediate area, larger vehicles and equipment must use the truck and dangerous goods routes available at Lloydminster.ca/routes.
The City of Lloydminster reminds motorists to allow extra time for travel and appreciates the patience and co-operation of all motorists as the project team diligently works to complete this vital initiative.
All downtown businesses remain open. Patrons are advised to follow the business access signage on the 49 Street alleyway east of 50 Avenue.

Detour and local traffic only signs will be placed throughout the area to show traffic and visitors how to access properties while avoiding the construction site. There will be no parking or pedestrian access permitted in the work zone until the end of the construction period. Emergency access will be maintained to all affected businesses at all times through alternate routes.
