Lloydminster, AB/SK – With a growing number of COVID-19 cases reported in neighbouring regions, the City of Lloydminster is taking steps to combat rapid spread of the virus.
On Friday, March 13, 2020, the City announced the immediate suspension of nine upcoming community events.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we have chosen to suspend a number of upcoming City-hosted events," said EMO Manager Jordan Newton. "As the City assesses its own vulnerabilities in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are following the prevention and protection measures provided by our provincial and federal health officials."
Effective immediately, the following events are suspended until further notice:
- March 18 – Tourism Workshop
- March 19 – LCSC Your Voice Open House
- March 25 – DARP Stakeholder Meeting
- March 25-26 – Feasibility Study Open House
- March 25-30 – Opioids Don’t Discriminate Exhibit
- March 28 – Battle of the Badges
- March 29 – Teddy Bears on Ice
- April 8 – Your City. Your Business.
- April 11 – Easter Pysanky
City-owned recreation facilities maintain regular operating hours, which can be found at lloydminster.ca/schedules.
The City will provide regular updates at lloydminster.ca/covid-19. Residents are encouraged to visit the resources below should they require additional information.
To prevent the spread of influenza and other common viruses, residents are reminded to protect themselves and others by:
- using good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing;
- practicing proper cough and sneezing etiquette (into the bend of your elbow);
- avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands;
- staying at home and away from others if you are feeling ill;
- calling Alberta’s Health Link (811) or Saskatchewan’s HealthLine (811) if there are concerns about symptoms relating to COVID-19, in which case call 911 and inform the operator that you suspect COVID-19; and
- living your life – a balanced diet, enough sleep and good fitness levels may help prevent catching the virus and will help with a quicker recovery, if caught.
