Lloydminster, AB/SK – Creating a community for tomorrow – this dynamic public exercise aims to foster a sense of ownership and collective responsibility, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in creating a municipal budget strategy for a vibrant and sustainable city for future generations.
Property owners and residents can share their voices on municipal spending priorities and vision for future investment through the virtual budget engagement survey available at YourVoiceLloyd.ca/2024budget. “This year’s Your City, Your Vision budget engagement campaign will gather valuable insights from the community, which will directly influence specific areas of the budget and contribute to the long-term vision and goals of the city. Collecting opinions and detailed experiences of how people envision Lloydminster allows us to understand our community’s needs. This further allows us to adapt our services to better meet those needs.”
Mayor Gerald Aalbers
With a focus on key aspects that directly impact residents’ daily lives and their overall satisfaction with city services, the survey invites residents to create a community for tomorrow by engaging in four service areas:
- Community Beautification: Enhancing the aesthetics of the city is a key aspect of building a vibrant community. The survey will seek input on initiatives such as planters, signage and vegetation maintenance, aiming to create an inviting and visually appealing environment for all residents.
- Tourism and Event Attraction: As the city strives to position itself as a premier destination, the survey will assess the preferences and priorities of residents regarding live acts, concerts, games, provincial and national events and community gatherings. Residents' input will help identify and prioritize initiatives that promote tourism and attract exciting events to the city, along with community event budgeting.
- Downtown Development: The survey will delve into the implementation elements of initiatives such as the Street Improvement Program, façade grants and the Downtown Area Revitalization Program (DARP). The City is eager to hear residents' thoughts on how to continue enhancing the downtown area as a vibrant hub for business, culture and social engagement.
- Satisfaction with Municipal Services: Resident feedback on municipal services is crucial for identifying areas of improvement and ensuring that the city operates smoothly. The survey will provide an opportunity for residents to express their satisfaction with current municipal spending levels and share suggestions regarding various municipal services, such as street cleaning, snow plowing and road maintenance.
By participating in the survey, residents will actively contribute to shaping the 2024 budget and the long-term future of the community. The full results of the survey will be presented to City Council and serve as a guiding resource in budget deliberations.
