All Grades and Ages | 90 minutes Enjoy a tour led by one of our staff while exploring the Lloydminster Museum & Archives Self-Guided Tours Explore the museum on your own time with your students, using resources provided by the Lloydminster Museum & Archives. |
Pioneer on the Prairies |
Pre-K – 1 | 90 minutes Grades 2-5 | 3 hours Price: $125 for up to 25 students ($5 per additional student, with a maximum of 30) Students will travel back to 1903 and follow the footsteps of the Barr Colonists as they made their way to the Canadian prairies. Students will experience a day in the life and learn what it takes to be a pioneer. Along the way, there will be hands-on activities, engaging and immersive stories, and a tour of our museum. This hands-on program is run seasonally and is available from May- September, so please prepare to be outdoors. Mask Making |
Grades 5-12 | 90 minutes
Price: $150 for up to 25 students ($6 per additional student, with a maximum of 30) Students will learn about the purpose of masks in art and drama, as well as the functions of masks in different cultures throughout history. Using plaster strips and plastic facial forms, students will create their own unique masks. You will be contacted once they have dried, and the masks will be available for you to pick up and take back to the classroom to decorate. Museums 101 |
Grades 8-10 | 2 hours Students will discover what goes on behind-the-scenes in a museum. They will get exclusive access to our collection, have an opportunity to meet our staff that work tirelessly to ensure our artifact collections meet professional standards, talk about interpreting stories through object-based learning and other mediums, and learn what it takes to work in a museum. Pottery: Hand Building |
Grades 5-12 | 90 minutes In the first part of this program, students will gain a basic understanding of the properties of this versatile medium and will learn basic hand-building methods and techniques. Students will also be given the opportunity to create their own unique pottery pieces. A minimum of 10 days’ drying time is required, after which the pieces will be bisque-fired so they can be painted in your classroom. You will be notified when pieces are ready for pick up. Pysanky |
Grades 4-12 | 90 minutes Price: $100 for up to 20 students ($5 per additional student) Learn the art of Ukrainian Egg Decorating using a traditional tool called a Kitska, beeswax and dyes. Your students will learn about the symbolism of these eggs, and they will be able to take them home after the school program. Please note that candles and dyes are used in this art form. Snowshoeing |
Grades 5-12 (Recommended) | 90 minutes Guided, on-site snowshoe rental with hot chocolate provided. There will be guided outdoor activities and indoor activities where students learn about animal adaptations and the history of snowshoes. This program is offered from November to February and is weather dependent. Please refer to the Cancellation Policy at the bottom of this page. Starting in the Log Cabin, groups can explore the area around Weaver Heritage Park. The Log Cabin contains localized heating, please be prepared for winter conditions. Price: $30/ 2-week rental (Includes pick up and return to LMA) Bring part of the Lloydminster Museum & Archives into your classroom with our new Education Kit. This kit is packed with artefacts, photographs and other resources that inspire curiosity and engage active young minds. Trace the stories of four pioneer families as they settle in the part of the Canadian prairies that eventually became Lloydminster. Cancellation Protocol |
In the event that you wish to cancel your program booking, written confirmation of your cancellation is required. Written confirmation can be delivered to the LMA in person or by e-mail, fax, or mail. If cancellation is received less than 24 hours prior to the start time of the booking, the cancellation charge will be 100% of the booking fee.
In the event that your program is cancelled, you will be notified as soon as possible prior to the start date and you will receive a full refund. Refunds are issued as a cheque through the City of Lloydminster’s Finance Department. For complete details, please view the Educational Program Policy. |
Supervisor Requirements |
Pre-Kindergarten to Grade One: 1 adult is required for every 5 children Grade Two and Up: 1 adult is required for every 10 children These adults, plus one additional adult, are included in the program fee and must be with the group upon arrival. Please advise the LMA upon booking if you have educational assistants or care aids supervising students that require extra support, for these adults will be admitted free of charge, but will not count toward the supervisor requirements.
