The following are commonly asked questions related to the Street Improvement Program. If your question is not included, please contact Engineering at the number proceeding the FAQs.

How long is construction expected to last?

Construction is expected to begin in May of the project year and last for approximately five months, weather depending. Individual parts may not require the entire five months of duration to complete construction.

Notices regarding construction phases and timelines will be distributed to those directly impacted before construction begins.

Will I be able to park on the street during construction?

On-street parking may be available depending on the scope of the work and what phase of construction the roadway is under. As required, “No Parking” signs will be placed on the adjacent boulevard the night before the worksite is scheduled to start. Residents within the work zone are required to move from the construction area until project completion or otherwise directed.

Notices regarding construction phases and timelines will be distributed to those directly impacted before construction begins. The notices will address any special provisions regarding parking

Will pedestrian access through the construction site be available?
No. “Sidewalk Closed” signs and other pedestrian signage, as required, to direct pedestrians away from the construction zone. Pedestrians and other road users are reminded to adhere to all applicable signage for their own and workers’ safety.
How will garbage be collected if the road is closed?

Garbage collection will operate in a modified manner. Residents are asked to place their carts and recyclables at the curb on their regular collection day. If collection vehicles cannot access the roadway, the City of Lloydminster, in conjunction with the selected contractor, will co-ordinate a designated pickup spot. The selected contractor will relocate all carts and return the carts to their respective properties.

Residents in the affected area will be notified of any changes to service.

Is mail delivery and courier services affected?
No. The sidewalks will remain operational throughout the project. Mail courier services are notified of the road closure, and delivery delivery should proceed as normal.
Will my landscaping be affected?
As part of the project, various curb, gutter, and sidewalk sections will be removed and replaced. Existing landscaping and vegetation adjacent to the excavation will be removed during the excavation. The City of Lloydminster will work with the selected contractor to restore any disturbed areas to pre-construction conditions.
Will access to my property be maintained throughout construction?
The City of Lloydminster strives to maintain access to all properties throughout construction. However, localized sections of curb and gutter adjacent to driveway aprons may need to be replaced during construction. If this happens, you may have restricted/no access to your property via your driveway apron to allow the newly poured concrete proper time to cure. Additional notices will be delivered to the property owner before this work starts. The City of Lloydminster and the selected contractor will work with you throughout this process to ensure the disruption in property access is minimal.
In 2023, how will the project affect Bishop Lloyd Middle School?
The 2023 Street Improvement Program will not affect bus schedules or child pick-ups and drop-offs at Bishop Lloyd Middle School. This portion of the project, along 31 Street from 57 Avenue to 55 Avenue, will start after July 1, 2023, and must be completed by August 22, 2023. School operations will continue as normal.
In 2023, how will the project affect the LloydEx Parade?
The 2023 Street Improvement Program will not affect the parade route along 50 Avenue from 54 Street to 55 Street. Portions of the work may begin before parade day; however, all work will be started before then will be completed before July 12, 2023, and will not restart until after July 15, 2023. The road will be drivable/walkable, and all walking trails and sidewalks will be usable by pedestrians without any obstructions.
