The Street Improvement Program is an annual program completed by the City of Lloydminster, in conjunction with a selected contractor, intended for replacing, upgrading, or expanding through new construction, surface infrastructure throughout our community to ensure the serviceability and longevity of our transportation system is maintained.
Due to factors such as the age, condition, and deterioration of the existing surface works infrastructure, the City of Lloydminster must continually rehabilitate or replace the existing infrastructure (i.e., asphalt concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutter, and sidewalks) to maintain adequate levels of service for residents and businesses throughout the city. In addition to rehabilitation work, the Street Improvement Program also aims to expand and develop new surface works infrastructure to accommodate the community’s growth, changing traffic patterns, or addressing network capacity issues
Project Scope
The Street Improvement Program typically consists of various locations around the City of Lloydminster, with the rehabilitation component of the work in these locations typically being comprised of:
- Miscellaneous concrete curb and gutter and concrete sidewalk repairs
- Landscaping repair of affected areas
- Milling existing roadway surfaces
- Miscellaneous roadway patching, repairs, and placement of levelling course
- Placement of hot-mix asphalt concrete pavement overlays
- Painted or inlaid thermoplastic pavement markings
- Miscellaneous concrete sidewalk and walking trail rehabilitation
The program includes various safety improvements, including the implementation of improved crosswalks through upgraded pavement markings and signage including the potential installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons. Most of these safety improvements focus on school and playground zones and pedestrian safety.
The Street Improvement Program maximizes public benefit by rehabilitating existing infrastructure, improving safety at our numerous crossings, and expanding our trail and roadway networks. Along with rehabilitation, the program expands on and develops new infrastructure, including walking trails and sidewalks, roadways, and turn bays.

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to adhere to all posted signage.
