Lloydminster Border Markers
Standing on the boundary between Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Border Markers represent four themes central to the region’s history and identity: oil and gas, the Barr Colonists, agriculture, and First Nations and Métis cultures. Each marker stands 100 feet tall and is painted orange to resemble traditional surveyors’ posts. Soon after their installation, it was discovered that the structures twisted in strong winds, and from 2001-2004, the markers were removed and re-engineered to ensure their long-term structural stability.

Sundial
Located within Bud Miller All Seasons Park, the Sundial is a 60-metre-wide installation believed to be one of the largest sundials in Canada. Its gnomon—the part of the sundial that casts a shadow—is a yellow-painted steel pipe measuring 23 feet in length and anchored by a concrete base. The sundial is surrounded by partially buried boulders, while its hour lines are formed by pavers set into the landscape. Raised hour numbers are displayed on sandblasted timber posts, and additional posts and steel pipes mark features such as true north and the four cardinal directions.
