A Moment with the Mayor: Celebrating the people behind Lloydminster’s small businesses
Small businesses are an important part of what makes Lloydminster a great place to call home. Behind every storefront and home-based business is someone who has invested their time and resources into building something of their own. Their hard work and commitment help shape the community we know today.
As we recognize Small Business Week from October 19 to 25, 2026, we have an opportunity to celebrate the entrepreneurs and business owners who contribute so much to Lloydminster and our local economy.
When we think of small businesses, we often picture the shops and restaurants we visit regularly. However, small businesses extend well beyond our downtown and commercial areas. From tradespeople and professional services to home-based entrepreneurs, these businesses provide valuable services to our residents and neighbouring communities.
Owning and operating a business takes determination and a willingness to take risks. Business owners wear many hats, often managing everything from finances and staffing to customer service and daily operations. They face challenges, celebrate successes, and continually find new ways to meet the needs of their customers.
Small businesses also play an important role in strengthening our community. They create employment opportunities, support local organizations, and contribute to the character of our city. Many of the businesses we rely on every day are owned and operated by people we know. Their success is closely connected to the success of Lloydminster as a whole.
As our community continues to grow, so do the opportunities for new ideas and businesses. It is encouraging to see the entrepreneurial spirit that exists in Lloydminster, from those opening their doors for the first time to those who have served generations of local families.
As residents, we also have a role to play in their success. Choosing to shop locally or recommending a business to a friend are simple ways we can make a meaningful difference. Every purchase and recommendation helps support the people who have chosen to invest in our community.
I encourage everyone to take time during Small Business Week to explore the many businesses that call Lloydminster home. Whether visiting a familiar favourite or discovering somewhere new, there are many opportunities to show our appreciation for the people behind these businesses.
To all our small business owners and entrepreneurs, thank you for your dedication and the many ways you help make Lloydminster a great place to call home.
Mayor Gerald S. Aalbers
