Planning is a word many of us use every day. You may be planning your activities at work, your family's meals for the week, or your annual holiday to visit a new destination or spend time with family and friends. Here at City Hall, planning is also a part of our daily work. From budgets and development projects to community events and long-term infrastructure investments, planning plays a role in what we do every day, week, month, and year.
2026’s construction season got underway and then took a short break for Mother Nature and the snowfall, which reminded us of who is in charge! Work is now moving ahead across Lloydminster, with a number of projects underway and more planned in the coming weeks.
Drone technology has evolved rapidly in recent years, becoming a valuable tool for municipalities, businesses, emergency services, and residents. What was once viewed primarily as entertainment or movie technology is now being used in practical ways across many industries and communities.
The City of Lloydminster’s 2025 financial statements were approved by City Council at the April 20 Regular Council Meeting. The report includes 38 pages outlining the City’s revenues and expenses for the year and, while detailed, is organized using standard accounting practices followed by municipalities across Canada to ensure consistency and transparency.
In the past, when someone talked about fishing, it meant trying to catch the big one. Today, “phishing” means something entirely different, and it is something residents need to be aware of.
Phishing is a method used by cybercriminals to trick people into sharing personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. These messages often appear to come from someone you know or a business you trust, with the goal of committing fraud.
Spring is beginning to arrive in Lloydminster, and as the snow recedes, litter and garbage that built up over the winter becomes more visible across roads, ditches, and open spaces.
While travelling to Newfoundland for meetings, I had the opportunity to visit the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Museum. With some time between commitments, the visit led me to reflect on how Canada supports its veterans after service. While this is a federal responsibility, it is one that also holds meaning for communities like Lloydminster.
Decisions around when to build municipal infrastructure, and how those projects are funded, have evolved over time. While the process can be complex, the goal remains the same: to ensure the City can build, maintain and grow responsibly
Lloydminster is often part of conversations at the local, provincial and national level when it comes to hosting events. Over the years, the community has welcomed a range of events across sport and culture.
As Mayor of Lloydminster, I have the honour of attending meetings, events, and functions representing the City and connecting with residents. It is always a pleasure to welcome guests visiting from outside the community, province, and country. Opportunities to meet with provincial and federal leaders, including Premiers, cabinet ministers, and the Prime Minister, are greatly appreciated and play an important role in promoting Lloydminster and advancing key priorities.
