Bordering on Disaster conference schedule now available

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The full schedule is now available for the 2026 Bordering on Disaster Conference, bringing two days of professional development, and networking to Lloydminster this October.

Taking place October 14 and 15 at the Lloydminster Exhibition, the conference will bring together emergency managers, disaster response professionals, and representatives from industry, government, health care, education, and first response sectors from across the Prairies.

Under the theme Expect the Unexpected, this year’s conference features 18 unique speakers throughout four keynote sessions and five breakout sessions focused on real-world experiences, emerging challenges, and practical approaches to emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.

Keynote sessions include:

• Pamela Goulden-McLeod, Director of Emergency Management for the City of Saskatoon, who will explore how emergency operations centres can adapt to increasingly complex community challenges.
• Misty Robinson, Misty Richardson, and Irene L. Navis, who will share lessons from the response and recovery following the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival mass casualty event in Las Vegas.
• Katherine Guest, a Certified Emergency Manager, who will explore the role of effective internal and public communication in building trust and strengthening emergency response.
• Inspector Ryan Smith, who will share lessons from the Vancouver Police Department’s response to the 2025 Lapu-Lapu Festival mass casualty event, including interagency coordination, victim support, and family reunification.

Five breakout sessions will complement the keynote presentations, covering topics including the Incident Command System, regional emergency management, emergency communications, flood response, public health emergencies, cultural considerations through community support, and responding to unexpected disasters.

In addition to speaker sessions, attendees will have opportunities to connect with professionals from across the region, explore a variety of trade show booths, and take part in an evening social mixer.

Tickets are $300 plus GST and applicable fees for the full two-day conference, or $150 plus GST and applicable fees for single-day admission. Group packages for two, five, and 10 attendees are also available.
