City to conduct 2026 Point-in-Time Homeless Count

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster will conduct its 2026 Point-in-Time (PiT) Homeless Count on Wednesday, October 21, from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., to better understand homelessness in the community. 

A PiT Count provides a snapshot of the number of people experiencing homelessness in a community at a specific point in time. Communities across Canada use PiT Counts to better understand the extent of homelessness and the experiences and characteristics of people who are unhoused. 

Lloydminster has been selected to participate in the federally co-ordinated PiT enumeration as one of a small number of rural communities from across Canada. The City will conduct a full PiT Count using both survey and enumeration methods. 

The count will include people staying in emergency shelters and transitional housing, those within health and correctional systems, and people staying in unsheltered locations, including encampments, abandoned buildings, alleys, and streets. 

The City has engaged with local organizations and groups to share information about the upcoming count and support participation. 

Information collected through the PiT Count will help provide a clearer picture of homelessness in Lloydminster and inform future planning and responses to community needs. 

Background 

• The City conducted its previous PiT Count on October 23, 2024, in collaboration with local service providers. 
• The 2024 count identified approximately 246 individuals experiencing homelessness in Lloydminster. 
• Of those surveyed in 2024, 91 percent indicated they wanted to transition into permanent housing. 
• Low income and high rent were identified as the most common barriers to securing housing.
