Lloydminster City Council talks policing with Federal and Provincial RCMP leaders

Lloydminster, AB/SK – Lloydminster Mayor and City Council enjoyed a rare opportunity to host some of Canada’s highest-ranking RCMP officers for discussion on local, provincial, and federal policing matters.

On Friday, May 1, 2026, the City of Lloydminster hosted RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme, Canada’s highest-ranking RCMP officer, along with Trevor Daroux, RCMP Deputy Commissioner and the “K” Division (Alberta) Commanding Officer; and Robin McNeil, RCMP Assistant Commissioner and the “F” Division (Saskatchewan) Commanding Officer.

The two-hour roundtable covered an array of topics, including:

  • Municipal RCMP contracts
  • Costs of policing services
  • RCMP services and service standards
  • Opportunities for enhanced provincial policing support to Lloydminster
  • Policing impacts relating to homelessness

“It was our City Council’s honour to host Commissioner Duheme and his team here in Lloydminster, sharing our local challenges directly while also learning from them how the RCMP aims to support municipalities in the future,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “The value of being able to share our perspectives face-to-face cannot be overstated. I am confident this conversation provided clarity around some of the intricacies of law enforcement and RCMP funding in our bi-provincial community.”
