Parents, caregivers, and educators invited to five-part series on navigating social media with youth
Lloydminster, AB/SK – Parents, grandparents, teachers, caregivers, and service providers are invited to build their understanding of social media and its impact on children and youth through Social Media in a Digital Age, a five-part series beginning Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Hosted by the City of Lloydminster’s Mental Health Working Group, the series will explore how social media and the internet influence health, wellness, connection, and behaviour, while providing adults with practical information to help young people navigate an increasingly connected world.
Sessions will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Legacy Centre, 5101 46 Street. Each week will focus on a different aspect of social media and digital life:
- October 8 – Social Media and the Effect on Health and Wellness: Ariel Haubrich will explore how technology can affect health, relationships, thoughts, and behaviours.
- October 15 – The Connected Brain: The MHCB LPSD Team will look at how stress, emotions, and social media affect brain function, learning, and well-being.
- October 22 – Online Safety: Constable Sims will discuss common online risks, healthy digital boundaries, and ways to help keep children and teens safe online.
- October 29 – Swipe, Scroll and Repeat: Rhonda Braun will explore how social media can influence behaviour and share strategies for developing healthier online habits.
- November 5 – Helping Kids Thrive in a Connected World: Lana Lane will share practical strategies for healthy digital habits, positive online experiences, and responsible digital citizenship.
