Residents encouraged to prepare properties ahead of weekend rainfall
Lloydminster, AB/SK – Forecasts are calling for periods of steady rainfall over the weekend, with up
to 25 mm of rain possible on both Saturday and Sunday.
While no widespread issues are anticipated, the City is encouraging residents to take a few simple
steps to help protect their properties and support the storm drainage system.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Clear leaves, grass clippings and other debris from nearby catch basins and storm drains to
allow rainwater to flow freely. - Ensure sump pumps are operating properly and that backup power systems, where available,
are ready if needed. - Confirm downspouts are directing water away from building foundations and are not draining
onto neighbouring properties. - Remove debris from eavestroughs and gutters to help prevent water from backing up.
- Monitor areas on your property where water tends to collect and ensure drainage paths remain unobstructed.
The City will continue to monitor conditions throughout the weekend and municipal crews are
prepared to respond should localized drainage concerns arise.
Residents are reminded to use caution when travelling during periods of heavy rain. Never drive
through water covering a roadway, as its depth and the condition of the road beneath may be difficult
to determine.
Simple preventative measures can go a long way in reducing the potential for localized drainage issues
during extended periods of rainfall.
Residents may call 780-872-5418 to report any urgent matters that arise outside regular business
hours.
